If you’re interested in learning about the 2018 eruption and Fissure 8 from first hand, eyewitness perspective, book a tour with me, Kris Burmeister. I've lived in Leilani Estates for 20 years. I raised my boys here and we evacuated on May 3rd 2018 as Fissure 1 erupted. This was a life changing event for my family, neighbors and the surrounding community.

I own direct access to Fissure 8, the mountain that literally grew in my front yard. Our home was taken May 28th 2018 by the lava from Fissure 8 and possibly Fissure 7. I am still a resident on the same street I lived on prior to the eruption.  My neighbor blessed me with the opportunity to buy their summer home. So I am as close to home as I can be.

I take my community's privacy serious and strive to maintain that meanwhile offering a safe place for visitors to see this iconic feature. Hawaii has many beautiful and unique places to see. Fissure 8 or Ahu‘ailā‘au as it has been named by the Hawaiian community, is a truly one of a kind place and it means something to me. Watching it grow daily before my eyes was a difficult experience to go through but it's raw beauty during its creation and after can't be denied. Mahalo for taking interest in my tour. Hope to here from you soon . Aloha!
